I have some front steps that need replacing. I demolished the cement steps that were there, they were crumbling badly. Now, should I replace them with cement steps again. How can I design them so they don't fail and crack. The old steps had a core filled tamped down dirt with walls and a slab on top (the stairs were quite large ,48" high.) The top slab cracked and water flowed in and froze . I heard it is unwise and expensive to pour solid steps that deep. Any comments or suggestions?
