Can a benign ovarian tumor grow rapidly?

Three weeks ago I had a exploratory lap due to excessive bleeding and anemia. At that time it was evident that I needed a hysterectomy due to the endometriosis, but my ovaries were not enlarged or anything. The day of my hysterectomy the doctor found that I had a tumor in my left ovary that had grown since the lap making my left ovary comparable in size to my already enlarged uterus. I haven't gone back for my check up yet, but the doctor said he thought the tumor was benign. Can a benign ovarian tumor grow that rapidly?
